The browser enforces this: the site’s security policy only lets the page talk to the code libraries’ servers and an anonymous usage counter (tool name, file type, size range). A request carrying your file to anywhere else would be blocked before it left.
Check it yourself: open your browser’s developer tools, go to the Network tab, and run the tool. Or turn off Wi-Fi once the tool has loaded; it keeps working.
How it works
Your e-PAN PDF opens with your date of birth written as DDMMYYYY, with no slashes. Enter it here and the card opens.
Whether your e-PAN came from Protean (formerly NSDL), UTIITSL or the income tax portal's Instant e-PAN, the PDF is locked with your date of birth as eight digits: day, month, year. Someone born on 7 March 1992 types 07031992. Companies, firms, trusts and HUFs use their date of incorporation or formation instead. Instant e-PAN takes the date from your Aadhaar, so if the two records differ, use the date on your Aadhaar. Drop the PDF, pick your date of birth, and it opens; you can then save a copy without the password to print or attach to a form. Nothing is uploaded.
How to use it
- Drop your e-PAN PDF. From Protean, UTIITSL or the income tax site.
- Pick your date of birth. It is turned into DDMMYYYY for you.
- Save or print. Download a copy without the password.
