Convert .docx to PDF with proper formatting. Loads LibreOffice on first use. Free, no signup. Runs entirely in your browser; files are never uploaded.

## How it works

Most online Word-to-PDF converters render server-side, which means you upload the document and trust their handling. This tool runs LibreOffice compiled to WebAssembly in your browser. On first use, the LibreOffice bundle (~300 MB) loads and caches. After that, conversion is offline. Formatting fidelity is high for documents that used standard styles, common fonts, headers / footers, and tables. Fonts not installed in LibreOffice (proprietary corporate fonts, custom downloaded fonts) fall back to a similar generic, which can shift line breaks. For pixel-perfect output, install the source fonts on the machine that originally created the .docx and print to PDF there. Note: the LO WASM bundle isn't fully self-hosted yet; the tool will return an honest error message until it's deployed.

## How to use it

1. **Drop your document.** Both modern .docx and legacy .doc are supported.
2. **Wait for the engine on first use.** The LibreOffice WASM bundle (~300 MB) downloads once and caches.
3. **Convert.** Rendering happens locally; custom fonts fall back to similar generics if not bundled.
4. **Download the PDF.** Check the layout — standard fonts, tables, and headers convert cleanly.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does the formatting stay intact?

Mostly. Standard fonts, tables, lists, headers, footers, images, and basic styles convert well. Custom fonts may fall back to a similar generic.

### Is my document uploaded?

No. LibreOffice WASM converts locally in your browser, no upload.

### Does it support .doc as well as .docx?

Yes, LibreOffice reads both legacy .doc and modern .docx.

### Why is the first conversion slow?

The LibreOffice engine downloads on first use (~300 MB), then caches forever. Subsequent conversions are fast.
