# Trim an audio file

> Play the audio, drag the handles to pick a start and end, hit trim. Output is MP3 at your chosen bitrate.

Cut an audio file to a start/end time. Free, no signup. Runs entirely in your browser; files are never uploaded.

## How it works

Drop any audio the browser can decode (MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG, FLAC). The trimmer shows a waveform-style scrubber: play the file inline, then drag the two handles to set the start and end points. Pick an output bitrate (128, 192, 256, or 320 kbps). The tool re-encodes as MP3 via ffmpeg.wasm, which loads on first use (~25 MB) and caches. The trim is sample-accurate, no keyframe constraints. Useful for cropping podcasts to a quote, cutting a song intro, or grabbing the last minute of a long recording. Output filename has -trimmed.mp3 appended. The original audio isn't modified.

## How to use it

1. **Drop your audio file.** MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG, and FLAC are all accepted.
2. **Find the cut points.** Play the file inline and drag the two handles to set start and end, down to a tenth of a second.
3. **Pick a bitrate.** Choose 128 to 320 kbps for the MP3 output.
4. **Trim and download.** The -trimmed.mp3 is encoded locally by ffmpeg.wasm and downloads.

## Frequently asked questions

### How do I cut an MP3 to a specific time?

Drop the file, drag the handles to where you want the cut to start and end, hit Trim. You can also click to play and find the exact spot.

### What's the smallest trim resolution?

About a tenth of a second. The trimmer reads tenths from the audio element's currentTime.

### Will the trim be exact?

Yes. The tool uses ffmpeg's -ss / -to seeking after the decode, which is sample-accurate for re-encoded output.

### Is my audio uploaded?

No. ffmpeg.wasm runs in your browser, the file stays local.
