# Compress an image

> Make photos and images smaller, one at a time or a whole batch, by quality or to fit under a size like 100 KB.

Shrink photos to a size you choose, never bigger than the original. Free, no signup. Runs entirely in your browser; files are never uploaded.

## How it works

Drop one image or many and each is compressed straight away, with its saving shown on its thumbnail. By quality gives you a slider; Under a size takes a limit (50 KB, 100 KB, 200 KB, 500 KB or 1 MB) for job portals, exam forms and visa applications, and makes each image as sharp as possible while fitting, shrinking its dimensions only when quality alone isn't enough. Best for each saves photos as JPG and keeps images with transparency (logos, cut-outs, screenshots with transparent areas) transparent by saving them as WebP; or force JPG or WebP. Largest side scales oversized phone photos to 2560, 1920 or 1280 px, which is often the biggest saving of all. Drag the line across the preview to compare original and compressed, and switch to 100% to inspect real pixels. If an image is already well compressed you get the original back, never a bigger file. Download one image, or all of them as a ZIP. Everything runs on your device with the browser's own image encoders.

## How to use it

1. **Drop your images.** One or many; each starts compressing right away.
2. **Choose how small.** A quality, or a size limit like 100 KB. Optionally cap the largest side.
3. **Compare.** Drag the line on the preview; switch to 100% to check detail.
4. **Download.** One image, or all as a ZIP.

## Frequently asked questions

### How do I compress an image to under 100 KB?

Choose Under a size and pick 100 KB. Each image is encoded at the highest quality that fits, and scaled down only if needed.

### Can I compress many images at once?

Yes. Drop them all; each compresses in turn and Download all saves them as one ZIP.

### Will a PNG with a transparent background stay transparent?

Yes with Best for each or WebP. JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas turn white if you force JPG.

### Why did one image say kept?

It was already compressed about as well as possible, so re-encoding would have made it bigger. The original is kept instead.

### Are my images uploaded?

No. Compression happens in your browser; the images never leave your device.
